Hi!

Did you try adjusting the monitor settings (in the monitor menu)? Because quite frankly, right now I don't know what I can fix. The screenshots show that the game already correctly sets the resolution to 720p. I would expect that a FullHD 1080p monitor is able to display 720p too (the ones that I tested with have no problem with this). My guess is, that your monitor settings are just a bit off, so that the monitor squishes the 720p picture.

I tried monitor settings and it only scales like 20% of black bars when maxed out :/

And when i get back to desktop my windows is out from screen :(so it need to be adjusted again

my screen is LG FLATRON W2453TQ

This is odd!!? i dont have any problems like this with other games

i got over 100 games in steam all works flawlessly :)

and many others installed in this machine all works, also games that are 1360x768 and *1280x720fail* maxed out :/

i just tested crysis 2 in resolution 1360x768 and *1280x720fail* both works fine in fullscreen an without black bars?!?

This is really odd

*EDIT: i was wrong :o1366x768 and 1360x768 works fine 1280x720 scales in this screen like crap :(

Would you be willing to run a small test program on your computer that I prepare for you?
That program could give me some clues about the supported resolutions on your computer.

If you want to try, then please contact me via email. You can find my address here:

OK, then this does indeed seem like an issue with your monitor. I'll consider this case closed. :ugeek:

I'll look into options for doing in-game scaling, but I can't promise anything at this point.

Try looking for a setting in your video cards control panel to run without the black bars, it may be the videocards drivers doing that.

I've just tried the demo on Steam, and yeah this is quite annoying.

Im on a dual monitor setup, both running 2048x1152, and because the game forces 720 mode it completely upsets my desktop, shifts everything over by around 700-800px and moves stuff from one window to the 2nd, and doesnt put everything back where it was as beforehand.

hope you like the filenames ;)

Thats a 'printscreen' screendump, it shows pretty much what its doing to my game. It should be 4096x1152, but its basically adding the 720 res onto an 2048x1152 one, it basically sits in a small window on my screen. Its not fullscreen (that may be because my monitor knows i want 1:1 pixel ratio, not stretched).

Would be nice to be able to select the res, i'll try it in windowed, but i suspect this might be enough to put me off buying it, i can imagine my neice trying to play it and moving the mouse outside the window and fullscreen just annoys me in its current state. Nice game though.

Would you be willing to test a special build if I add a custom-res option?
If so, please email me (see: http://www.spyn-doctor.de/contact.html).

EDIT: I thought some more about what you are seeing, and at first glance, everything seems to work as expected. The game queries your monitor to check if it supports 720p. Since it does, the game then selects 720p as its resolution. So one of your two monitors switches to 1280x720 fullscreen (to display the game) while the other stays at its normal resolution. The reason that you are seeing the 720p of the game with a black frame, instead of fullscreen, is because you have told your monitor to use 1:1 pixel ratio. So instead of upscaling the output to full screen, the monitor fills the rest with black. You should get a nice full screen picture if you change this behavior of your monitor.
Now if I would add a custom-res option so that the game would output in a higher res than 720p, then the way how would implement this would simply be, that the game would upscale its internal 1280x720 resolution to your monitor's 2048x1152 resolution. The result would be the same upscaled output as if you would simply allow your monitor to do this upscaling (instead of setting it to 1:1 pixel ratio). Actually, your monitor might even do a better job with the upscaling than the game would (although I'm not sure of this).
Your other problem is, that going to full screen reorders the windows on your desktop. This is not really something that I can do anything about. My game certainly does not move the windows around. It just sets one of the monitors into fullscreen mode. It is Windows who does not correctly cope with this and which moves the windows around to the other monitor (and not back again, after you close the game). Either a Windows problem, or a graphics driver problem, or something similar. There's nothing I am aware of that I could do in-game to avoid this (other than telling you to not use the fullscreen mode, but only the window mode).

Forgot that i'd used my gmail account (which i rarely check) for reply notification.

I was wrong, the DVI input isnt set to 1:1, its set as Aspect (selection of: Full, Aspect & 1:1).
Full seems to just stretch it across the width (but not at the 16:9 ratio). 1:1 makes it marginally smaller, 10% maybe.

The re-ordering problem im used to, but usually its only older stuff when 800x600 and 1024x768 were the norm.
I'll send an email through that form, its worth a try. I suspect the market of customers with multiple screens isnt that significant, though its the surprise that it limits itself at a display ratio which i cant imagine has ever held much of a market share. If it stopped at 1920x1080 i could see the logic in that few monitors go outside that, and its surely the most common being bought now and has a fair few years life in it holding a large share.

If the game generated the black border, that wouldnt be terrible, if it upscaled or stretched it (to ratio) it would probably be better.

edit: now ive gone to where i thought would be a form, i see why its 1280x720 :D
